Retrospective view of Nigeria at 49

…………….Kudos Naija!!! It’s an achievement to be 49 despite the suppression oppression, depression and all other ‘sions’ associated with it.

Naija made it again. “There you go again!” The pessimists would readily exclaim because they view things from the empty side. “We are pressing towards the mark” The optimists (just like me) will whisper with confidence because we view things from the full part.

But what are we celebrating @ 49?

“Do you have an idea?” I asked my Niger neighbor just at noon. No definite answer was made available to me.

Are we celebrating VISION 20/2020? The four month old strike between ASUU and the FG? The Yar’adua’s administration amnesty deal with the Niger-Delta militants? The introduction of new naira notes similar to the ‘I-won’t-succumb-to-your-folds-and-squeezes’ twenty naira notes introduced by the former CBN governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo at the expense of our depreciating naira value? Our failure to qualify/almost qualify for the FIFA 2010 world cup in South Africa, our Sister land? The recent and plaguing kidnappings in Anambra state? The assassination of Ohu? The 7 point agenda of President Yar’adua?

Looking at Naija from the occupational and professional point of view, I begin to imagine if the DOCTORS of our beloved nation in this generation have not been able to diagnose the ailments, sicknesses and diseases of Naija; the CHEMISTS and PHARMACISTS have not been able to offer the right prescription and dosage of drugs that can cure Naija; the TEACHERS and LECTURERS have not been able to teach and lecture the pre-, now and post-leaders of Naija on country administration; the FARMERS have not been able to sow good seeds that will yield good fruits for Naija; the DENTISTS have not been able to cure the toothache of Naija; the ACCOUNTANTS have not been able to offer proper financial position of Naija; the ECONOMISTS have not been able to organize the money, trade and industry if Naija; the LAWYERS have not been able to represent Naija properly on legal matters; the MASS COMMUNICATORS have not been able to communicate and air our views to Mr. Yar’adua, Mr. Sam Egwu, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. David Mark and others; the LINGUISTS have not been able to convey the various languages of our dispersed but unified country to Aso Rock Villa; the ARCHITECTS have not been able to draw a plan for a better building for Naija; the POLICEMEN, FORCEMEN and PARAMILITARIES have not been able to protect-cum-defend the liberties and rights of well deserving citizens of Naija; the SURGEONS have not been able to operate with their ‘knives’ and other surgical equipments on Naija to take away the killer disease pulling down our economy; the PSYCHOLOGISTS have not been able to study the state of mind of citizens of Naija; the AERONAUTIC, AUTOMOBILE and MARINE ENGINEERS have not been able to provide a means of transportation to convey Naija out of her present predicament; the ARTISTS have not been able to sketch/draw a picture of Naija @ 49 just as Da Vinci drew the Mona Lisa; the SOCIOLOGISTS have not been able to study well how Naija as a society can progress; the PASTORS, CLERICS, REVERENDS, BISHOPS, IMAMS, EVANGELISTS and other RELIGIOUS LEADERS,et al. have not been able to pray and deliver Naija from this ‘thorn in the flesh’ and from the ‘Accuser of the brethren’; the OPTICIANS have not been able to cure the eyes of Naija as we behold our 49th birthday and cast our gaze on VISION 20/2020……………

Sincerely, there is more to write but “the faintest pen is sharper than the sharpest sword”….

Really don’t know what to do but I think I’ll rest my case here.

          1 LUV NAIJA

           HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, NAIJA

           GOD BLESS NAIJA!!!
